Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS IPL SKIN REJUVENATION?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, this treatment harnesses the power of light transfering into heat energy to lift pigmentation out of the skin, as well as and targeting redness and capillaries and stimulating collagen.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY IPL TREATMENT?

We commence your treatment with a double cleanse and exfoliation. We then apply a cold ultrasound gel to the skin, the treatment head glided over the treatment area targeting your skin concerns. The gel is then wiped off and we finish with hydrating serums with highly active ingredients and a SPF30+ sunscreen.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

A series of 7 sessions is recommended for best results, spacing the treatments out every 3 weeks. We recommend combining the treatment with skin needling or microdermabrasion for best results.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE PRE AND POST TREATMENT?

We recommend wearing a daily sunscreen prior to your treatment to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays and to avoid stimulation of melanocytes pre treatment. We avise keeping the area to be treated out of the sun both pre and post treatment for at least 4 weeks.

Please do not use any prescription Vitamin A for 1 week prior to your treatment and no harsh acids or scrubs for at least 5 days post treatment.

Your dermal therapist will guide you on a recommended skin care program for your skin concerns.

We always recommend the daily use of SPF 30 sunscreen to prevent the skin becoming sun damaged. Please apply at least once every two hours when out in the sun to prevent post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation

IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

The treatment is warm to hot, but not painful.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Our patented treatment head has refrigerated contact cooling to keep the epidermis cool. The skin is mildly red after the treatment, but will look lifted, brighter and fresher as the bodies natural response begins healing the skin to produce collagen.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY TREATMENT?

Your skin will look rejuvenated and revitalised with an even tone for a more youthful refreshed appearance.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The light looks for something to be absorbed into. Capillaries and redness require a green light that will absorb into anything red, the light transfers into heat energy when it finds its target in the skin (capillaries or redness). This then selectively heats up the capillaries, then the body’s natural mechanisms clean up the capillary.

With pigmentation, a yellow light is used that transfers into heat when it finds pigmentation in the skin. This lifts the pigment to the surface of the skin so that it gradually fades away over 4-7 days
